Arnie's Photos

It is always nice to have a new perspective. I was blown away by a lot of Arnie's photos of Fort Adams. Of course, I am biased. However, I thought it was interesting that he saw so many things that I totally missed. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.

Notable Mentions

These were some of my favorite pictures that I took this term that didn't really get to be used because of the nature of the assignments given.  I have my camera on me all the time so that when I see a good shot, I can take it.  Unfortunately, if the picture wasn't taken after the assignment was given, it can't be used for it.  A lot of my photography is a matter of being in the right place at the right time.

Finals!

These are the pictures that I took and fixed in Photoshop for my Digital Imaging final.

Malia at Museum

This picture was taken at a photo museum and I used for my photography final as well. A little background info. Malia refused to get out of her pajamas that day and so ended up going to this museum with me on my class field trip. We were there early and I used that time to take pictures of her and the scenery. She also used that time to take pictures using my iPhone. So I ended up using these shots for the "outdoor product" part of the final. My professor checked this photo out before I turned it in and said that the iPhone wasn't recognizable. So using my Photoshop skills, I took pictures of the front page of my iPhone and inserted into the picture of photo of Malia seen here. For full impact, I'll show both the before and after.

Black & white Boat

This picture I actually used in my photography final, however my my professor suggested that I make it black and white and bring back the color in just the boat and the flag. So I did just that. So here are the before and after.

Fighting Geese

In attempts to get suitable pictures for my photography final, I ended up with some notable mentions that didn't make the cut.
Now that the pond near my house is thawing, the geese and ducks are returning. I think this particular goose is defending his girlfriend. He was making quite a racket before flying over and making his point a different way.

Graphic Design final

This is my final for this term. I basically had to do an electronic portfolio. So I have a front page and three sub-pages that I linked to the front page. Since this was not a web design class, it was a simple link using Adobe professional. They are not linked here however. These are just the images.

Black & white

I was trying to use this picture in my montage picture and ended up using something else. However, I learned how to bring back just a little color in a black and white photo. Tres Cool!

Stamp and Billboard

In this assignment, we needed to make a stamp and a billboard using the same picture. For the billboard one, I actually had to take a picture of a billboard and insert my billboard picture on it. In trying to find a billboard to take a picture of, I realized how very few billboards there are here in New Hampshire.

Cool Effects

Here is a lab that I did where I had to do 5 different effects to one photo. Top left, I put tv scan lines onto the photo. On the one in the very middle, I put a radial motion blur on it to give the effect of the leaves being blown around. Top right, the effect is subtle. I changed the color of Malia's right glove and the ladder to the slide. She had a missed matched pair of gloves that day. I made them both red in that picture. On the pictures on the bottom, I gave them different types of edges. The one on the right has a "painted" edge and the one on the left has edge made from different types of filters.

Portraits

These are my first attempts at doing portraits using a fill flash, that is just enough flash to light up the shadowy areas to bring out more detail in a photo that already has enough ambient light. I am still not very good at it but that is why I am in school right?

Cool house!

This is a cool house that I drive by all the time and always have wanted to get a picture of. It looks like a place that people would have weddings and other special events. There is a gazebo and a bridge near the water to the right of the picture. I am going to try to get even better pictures in the spring when it is not so cold.

My graphic design work

These are the projects I have been worked on in my digital imaging class. I have to do a lab on Tuesday doing all the effects using just one photo. Thursdays' assignments are doing the same effects practiced on Tuesday but on many photos with a connected theme. I hope you enjoy my amateur efforts.
(Above: This is consists of six different effects. Starting from the top left: the guitar has a double glow; top right: The baby's head has been moved in front of the type; middle left: The picture of the girls is inserted into the picture of the computer, as well as being the background; middle right: the guitar has a fade away reflection; bottom left: (disclaimer: the bottle is not my picture) The product is used as the background as well as the focal point; bottom right: I blended my photo into a black background at the bottom.)
(Above is a lab for shadows. Top left: cast shadow; top right: a post-it note; bottom left: a polaroid effect; bottom right: a soft lighting effect)

(Above is another lab. Top: I added a brushed metal effect on the bottom; Middle: Photo tinting; bottom left: I added a different reflection to the sunglasses; bottom right: I added a different pattern to the car seat)
(Above: This is a lab for a dvd menu. There is pattern that I made with the paws. I tinted the photo. I added depth using glow and drop shadows. I then I made a vignette.)

(Above is the assignment that uses the same effects as the sunglasses lab; Brushed metal, tinting, reflections and a pattern overlay. The pattern overlay is hard to see because it is on the baby's car seat.)
